How do I change my password?

Users with a Visitor or Courtesy Borrowing card may change their UBITName password online at: ubidm.buffalo.edu

  • Users with a Library Research Station account cannot change their password. You may request a new account at any Library Services desk. You must agree to abide by all University at Buffalo policies and have photo identification in order to be given an account.

How to borrow materials from the University Libraries?

For a Visitor Borrower account, you must be a member of any of the following borrowing programs:

  • AcademicSHARE Program Member
  • Corporate Borrower Program
  • UB Alumni Association Lifetime Members

For a Courtesy Borrower account, you must be a:

  • Friends of the University Libraries Member
  • UB Retirees (non-emeritus)

What are the borrowing policies?

  • Library Visitors and Courtesy borrowers may borrow most circulating materials for 30 days.
  • Materials may be renewed up to 90 days from the original loan date before the materials becomes due using My Account (log in using your UBitName and password).
  • Up to 25 items may be borrowed at one time.
  • All materials are subject to recall.

Library Overdue and Fine Notices

  • Visitor and Courtesy borrowers with unpaid fees are unable to borrow or renew library materials.
  • As a courtesy, reminders will be sent via email ten days before an item is due. Additional reminders will be sent oon the date due and also five days past due.
  • At 10 days past the due date, you will be billed a non-refundable fee and the replacement cost for the non-return of library material. The My Account feature on the libraries website can be used to view all library charges.
  • Any questions concerning fines or replacement of lost items should be directed to University Libraries via email.
  • Please note that the borrower is responsible for all charges whether or not the courtesy notices are received.

Access to Databases

  • Your Visitor or Courtesy borrower account provides in-library access to article databases and electronic journals.
  • If you are not eligible, or have no need, to borrow library materials you may obtain a Library Research Station account which provides in-library access to the article databases and electronic journals.
  • Please note: Off-campus access is not available due to licensing restrictions. If you are a New York State resident, you can access databases freely through the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, the New York State Library's NOVELNY, and the New York Public Library.
