Reporting to the Vice Provost for University Libraries, the Chief of Staff, Director of Communications, Associate University Librarian for Distinctive Collections serves as a member of the Libraries’ Executive Team and provides leadership and deep expertise in facilitating and supporting the products and process of scholarship that advance programs and initiatives in communications, scholarly communication, and distinctive collections.
- Assist in the development and implementation of library policies, programs, and services as well as managing and supervising staff, and ensuring the efficient functioning of the library.
- Lead the faculty and staff of the Libraries’ Communications Team, providing strategic direction and support for communication and marketing campaigns that promote the importance of libraries in research, teaching, student success and community well-being.
- Directs all aspects of Special Collections (Poetry Collection, University Archives, Rare & Special Books, History of Medicine), ensuring the library’s strategic and annual plans are incorporated into, and accomplished, through unit goals and objectives.
- Lead the staff of the Libraries’ Scholarly Communication Office, providing strategic direction and support for innovative and effective programs consistent with strategic initiatives of the Libraries.
- Represents, promotes, and helps to establish a leadership role for the University Libraries by strategically engaging in campus-wide initiatives, consortia partnerships, and academic and professional organizations.

Reporting to the Vice Provost for University Libraries, the Associate University Librarian for Administration and Distinctive Collections provides strategic leadership for a team of professionals in the Libraries’ administrative office who are responsible for communications, data and assessment, scholarly communications and special collections.
- Identifies and sets communication and outreach project priorities, goals, and objectives; assigns work to communication team members in order to effectively market library services, programs, and events that demonstrate the value of the libraries to the academy and outside communities;
- Provides leadership for and oversight of Libraries outreach, communication, and marketing; public programming; creation and editing of Libraries publications; and curation of Library exhibits;
- Represents, promotes, and helps to establish a leadership role for the University Libraries by strategically engaging in campus-wide initiatives, consortia partnerships, and academic and professional organizations;
- Participates in the Libraries’ program of fundraising and development;
- Oversees assessment planning and data management for the Libraries;

Reporting to the Interim Vice Provost for University Libraries, the Associate University Librarian for Technology, Communications, and Outreach is the senior information architect for the University Libraries responsible for developing the strategic vision and plan for the Libraries’ information technology infrastructure and the staff that support it; and identifying and setting communication and outreach project priorities, goals, and objectives.
- Maintains accountability for the overall direction, design, acquisition, installation, and secure operation of all technology used by the University Libraries;
- Directs the design, development, coordination, and assessment of the University Libraries’ platforms supporting digital scholarship, including Digital Collections, the UB Institutional Repository and the Libraries’ website;
- Plans and oversees the Libraries’ IT budget and expenditures;
- Coaches, mentors, and motivates team managers to create an IT culture of innovation, collaboration, communication, engagement, and accountability within the Libraries;
- Participates in the Libraries’ program of fundraising and development;
