How to Install

• You must have administrative rights on the computer to install this software. Be sure to close all windows applications before installing EndNote.
• EndNote System and Hardware requirements are listed on the EndNote website
• Please note that some browsers may flag the program with security reminders. You may have to choose "more options" and confirm that you wish to install the program.
• If you wish to search the University Libraries catalog within the EndNote interface, you will need to use a connection file. To activate the University at Buffalo Libraries connection, go to Edit, Connection Files, Open Connection Manager. Scroll down to Univ Buffalo Libraries and put a check mark in the box.
• If the University at Buffalo Libraries filter is not appearing in the Filters menu, it can be downloaded and installed.
• Note: an older version of the connection file was called SUNY-Buffalo. This connection file is no longer active and should be replaced with the University at Buffalo Libraries connection file.

For better full-text searches

To greatly improve the success rate of the Find Full-Text feature:

1. Click on Edit: Preferences. Select "Find Full-text" item in the left-hand column.
2. Check "PubMed LinkOut" boxes (all checkboxes should now be checked)
3. Insert the following URL into BOTH the "OpenURL Path" and the "Authenticate with URL" text box: https://search-lib-buffalo-edu.gate.lib.buffalo.edu/discovery/search?vid=01SUNY_BUF:everything
4. Click Apply, OK.
5. The "Find full text" and "Find full text - Authenticate" features in EndNote will open a pop-up window prompting you to login to University Libraries services. Enter your UBIT name and password to be authenticated.
6. Don't worry if EndNote displays a scripting error with "Find full text" authentication; simply accept the error and continue the process. This is a known issue with EndNote that should be fixed in a future release and is not really a problem.

Installation Instructions:

1. Allow the download to complete before proceeding.
2. Completely Quit Microsoft Word.
3. If your web browser did not automatically launch the installer, in Finder, double-click the ~.dmg file that was downloaded.
4. Double click the EndNote X9 installer app to run the installer. If prompted to replace, choose the Replace option.

For Better Full-Text Searches

1. Click on EndNote: Preferences. Select "Find Full-text" item in the left-hand column.
2. Check "PubMed LinkOut" boxes (all checkboxes should now be checked)

4. Click Apply, OK.
